How to mourn your own death

We all know it: Sooner or later, each of us is going to die. In Buddhist traditions, meditating on death awareness is one of the oldest practices. But here in the West, we don’t want to be confronted with the subject. We don’t like to think the seemingly unthinkable. Some of us are even convinced that mere thoughts of death will trigger the actual event. What happens when we do face our biggest fear? What happens when we confront ourselves with our own death? Here are some steps to help you figure out the answers for yourself.

How to transform into a tree

Returning to the earth when we die. It sounds like the most logical thing to happen to our bodies after death. But if we take a closer look at our current modern burial rituals, we soon discover there are many obstacles that stand in between a dead body and the earth.
Through embalming methods that keep the body needlessly in perfect shape, sealed caskets made of non-degradable materials and other unnecessarily added items that supposedly protect a corpse, natural decomposition is being heavily delayed.
Luckily for those of us who do wish to literally become one with the earth, there are many eco-friendly options. Here is a quick guide on how to gracefully transform into a tree.

About

A Course in Dying is a platform for all subjects dealing with death, with the aim of raising death awareness, founded by Claudia Crobatia.

I explore how the theme of death influences us, how aware we are of our own mortality and how death can even be a great source of inspiration.
